November - 2017

From The Principal...

Dear Parents,

Warm Greetings from SIS!

Like in the Rubik cube, the events at Sapphire International School display a riot of colours, but come together in our imagination with unsurpassable smoothness and spontaneity, representing a magical wholeness, a unique pattern that merges with our life within and outside the campus. These are like the music notes in a piano, which waft towards the world, as our spirits enter the reeds.

Take the Halloween Night for instance, where the mergence of our energy with the Gothic requirements of the occasion was complete. Strange, unearthly faces gathered in an atmosphere of wild revelry, dancing to the tune of reverberating music, watched by mesmerized onlookers. The night was a one of the most fun-filled soirees of November, 2017.  We must not forget that Sapphire teaches us the great value of social empathy. The following ‘Smile Sunday’ was spent not merely in the movie hall, but also in the company of orphans with ‘Peastalozzi’. In sports, medals came to Sapphire from the CBSE National Skating Competition in Bhopal. Later in the month the SIS Cricket field was the scene of frenetic activity as the Inter-House Cricket matches were played with incomparable zest.

The Sapphire catholicity was evident in the organization of events, for very soon a Robotics Workshop was followed by a Blood Donation Camp. We cannot fail to mention that the latter coincided with the Annual Exhibition, which was a stupendous success. Students braved the might of the sun to showcase the extraordinary deftness that went into their projects, and awed the honourable guests with detailed explanations of the thematic aspects of their work.

The third week of the month witnessed our participation in the 4th Bengal Junior Open Squash Championship besides giving us an insight into the wondrous skills of small boys and girls in the Ranchi District Inter-School Karate Championship. While Kirti Sharma talked to her schoolmates about the divine effects of “Pranic Healing” on Children’s Day, the day itself became magical with all Teachers sending everyone into a virtual trance with their exquisite performances in skits, dances, and songs!

In the three Circle Time slots during the month the school saw some memorable performances during “Role Play”, quite ingenuously created paintings and pictures during the “Poster Making Competition”, and novel methods of classroom decoration under the redoubtable expertise of teachers.

Not to be outdone the Sports Department came up with the Inter-House Karate Tournament, and the Inter-House Basketball Tournament. However, the event that stole the show was the 63rd Jharkhand State School Boys & Girls Squash Championship/Selection Trial 2017-18. Seven of our students were selected for the SGFI National, Jharkhand Squash team.

We cannot fail to mention the important note on which the month of November, 2017 ended. The School was the venue for the “Cyber Mom Training”, jointly organized by Google and Cyber Peace Foundation and supported by National Commission for Women. It was felt very strongly by the Management that mothers needed to be sensitized towards the rampant misuse of the Internet by children. But not all was wariness; they were also informed about the many useful things that they could do with it, sitting at home not only for domestic purposes, but also in the professional world.

With best wishes,

Sapphire International School

'Smile' Sunday Activity

There is nothing like gifting someone a reason to smile. A 'Smile'-Sunday- activity-cum-movie for SIS boarders was organised on 4th Nov',17, when they got a chance to meet and watch a movie (Secret Superstar) with kids from 'Peastalozzi' (an NGO working for orphans and the needy and ) at Eylex, Ranchi. It was a great opportunity for our kids to widen their dimensions of understanding about more complex issues in life like empathy, privilege, family and society. It also gave the wonderful kids from the NGO an opportunity to experience something new, and all of them enjoyed themselves thoroughly.

Pranic Healing

Kirti Sharma, an ex-student of Sapphire International School was invited on the occasion of Children's Day to talk to the students about Pranic Healing.

Kirti shared her life experience with the students relating how one day, out of the blue, she started to feel a backache which got very severe with time and doctors couldn't diagnose the cause. She was finally introduced to the art of 'pranic healing', and miraculously the pain vanished with the  pranic healing sessions and she was completely healed within a period of one year.

Herself now a pranic healer, she taught the students about the astral body of the human beings, and explained how the auras and chakras affect the body.

She demonstrated the super brain yoga and told the students about the benefits of that exercise.

She also talked about how every human being is connected through spiritual cords, and how positive and negative thoughts affect the aura of the human body.

A brief introduction was given to the students about the "Law of Attraction" and the workshop finally concluded with the demonstration of a technique whereby children learned how to feel energy by opening the hand chakras.

The children found the workshop very beneficial; we hope to have more of such spiritual sessions in the future for the students of SIS.

Class decoration

Between the pressure of keeping up with the school curriculum, meeting with parents and running daily classes, it can be hard to make time for creativity in the classroom. With such little time to spare, it can be easy to think – "Does it really make a difference?"

The short answer is: 'absolutely'. Creative classrooms don’t just 'look' different, they 'feel' different. They provide an environment where students are more likely to express their ideas, think outside the box, challenge problems with innovative solutions, and most importantly – learn faster and more effectively. So this Circle Time was used to decorate the class rooms. Children were guided by the teachers in making different decorative items, and were told about various ways of adding more color, creativity and passion to classroom decor.
